The IOC is breathing a sigh of relief after Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said he would sign the necessary financial guarantees required by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to support the joint bid from Milan and Cortina, Italy.

The IOC was facing the real possibility that the 2026 Winter Games would not have a host.

Innsbruck in Austria, Sion in Switzerland and Calgary in Canada all pulled out of the bid to host the Olympic games after public referendums rejected the idea.
The guarantees include underwriting the multi-million dollar security budget, estimated at £355 million as well as a number of infrastructure projects.

Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy hosted the 1956 Olympic games.
