The Army Times reports 21-year-old West Point Cadet Peter Zhu of Concord, California died from injuries he sustained while skiing at West Point’s Victor Constant Ski Area located on academy grounds:
“A fellow skier found Peter L. Zhu unresponsive on a ski slope at Victor Constant Ski Area on Saturday, Feb. 23. Members of a ski patrol responded and performed life-saving measures before Zhu was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to Westchester for further treatment. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation.”
Zhu was president of the Cadet Medical Society and was to receive a commission as a Medical Corps officer. He planned to attend the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences for medical school. He served on Regimental Staff the first semester of his senior year. A memorial ceremony for the West Point community and a private funeral service are planned in coming days at West Point. We are truly sorry for the tragic loss of this young man with a such a bright future.

The Victor Constant Ski Area was dedicated in 1946 in memory of Capt. S. Victor Constant, Dept of MA&E, who as coach of skiing, designed and supervised construction of these slopes and tows and by his skill and leadership, developed recreational and competitive skiing into major activities at the Military Academy.
