The body of a skier who went missing on Monday at Heavenly Ski Resort has been recovered.

Brett Herrick, 62, was found in the trees between the Comet and Dipper runs by Heavenly Ski Patrol and a K9 search dog.

His body was found immersed in deep snow. He was unresponsive.

It is believed that Herrick fell during his run and was unable to free himself from the snow.

An autopsy will be conducted, but rescuers believe he likely suffocated in the snow or died of exposure.

Herrick was last seen at about 11:30 a.m. Monday shortly before he become separated from his girlfriend after he decided to ski through the trees.

The Tahoe region has been having one of the snowiest Februaries ever recorded. On the morning of the Herrick disappearance, Heavenly was reporting 19″ of new snow.
