The consolidation of the ski industry has made it tough for small independently owned ski areas to stay afloat. WCAX brings us a look at the struggles of Bolton Valley, a small family owned ski area in Northern Vermont.

Bolton Valley was founded by Ralph DesLauriers and his father in 1966. They ultimately sold the ski area before buying it back in 2017.
“Our niche is certainly local and we’ll never, and that will never not be the case. We’re rooted in this community and that’s our first priority but you know in Boston, in Massachusetts, and in New York, there are a lot of families that also, they need an accessible option too,” Lindsay Deslauriers tells WCAX.
