On Friday 14 December, English surfer Tom Butler was towed into a monster wave by German big-wave surfer Sebastian Steudtner. The wave is estimated to be 90-100ft tall, which would make it the biggest wave ever surfed!

The wave is believed to be larger than the 80 foot wave ridden on November 8, 2017 by Brazilian Rodrigo Koxa.

If the wave turns out to be larger than the one Rodrigo Koxa rode, Tom Butler will most likely be crowned the new biggest weave surfer at the WSL Big Wave Awards in April 2019.
