Everybody hates a spoiler, but Russian scientist Sergei Savitsky like, really hates them.

So much so that he stabbed a colleague in the heart for revealing one too many book endings as they worked together at Russia’s Bellingshausen research station on King George Island, Antarctica.

The Russian news agency Interfax called the incident the results of “tensions in a confined space.

Savitsky and his colleague, Oleg Belogusov, apparently passed the long, cold hours at the station curled up with a good book when not hard at work. But Belogusov had a game of his own that eventually secured him an emergency flight to a hospital in Chile with a knife in his heart: revealing the endings to books that Savitsky was reading, reports the UK’s Daily Record

Prior to the presumably friendship-ending stabbing, the two had worked together at the station for four years. It is believed to be the first attempted murder charge to be filed from Antarctica, according to the Record.

Initial reports on the incident, which occurred last week, mentioned only an “apparent emotional breakdown” before more details emerged, prompting collective empathizing with the stabber from around the internet.

Belogusov is expected to recover and Savitsky is under house arrest following the charges.
