A British mountain biker who was killed while riding a popular trail in Montriond, France has been identified as 34-year-old Marc Sutton. Sutton was a local of the French mountain town.

Sutton was biking on a popular mountain track within the town limits when he was shot by a 22-year-old hunter. A prosecutor for the Thonon-Les-Bains region, told the Associated Press (AP) the death was believed to be an accident. It is unclear if Sutton was hit by a stray bullet or if he was miss identified as a wild animal.

An inquiry has been launched into the incident of “aggravated manslaughter,” French prosecutors said.
