“Baffin” recounts a summer 2016 trip Great Sail Peak on Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic. This film, released this weekend by Arc’teryx, stars wunderkind climber Marc-Andre Leclerc, who was lost on an Alaskan expedition with his climbing partner Ryan Johnson this past Spring.
Fair warning: This can make for a strange watch. The video has all the epic landscapes and sheer bivys we’ve come to expect from climbing films, but you watch knowing its star so recently paid the ultimate price in the mountains at only 25 years old. His climbing/life partner in the film survives him, and that can be tough to think about. But if you’re ready to contemplate how powerful the call of the mountains is for those who love them, watch on.
