65 year-old David Mullarkey went missing on March 14th while skiing at Bear Valley Mountain Resort. He was discovered roughly 2 months later by authorities on Monday with the assistance of K-9’s reports the Tahoe Daily Tribune.

The victim’s body was found just beneath the surface of the snow after K-9’s tracked the scent of the deceased person to an area known as Groovy Gully. A pole and ski belonging to the victim were also visible just above the snow. The Alpine County Sheriff’s Department extended their “sincerest condolences” towards to the Mullarkey family.

“[We] would like to thank the Mullarkey family and their many friends for their patience and understanding during this very emotional and painful event.” – Spencer Case, Alpine County Sheriff’s Department

Initial search efforts for Mullarkey were hampered by severe winter weather and heightened avalanche conditions. The search went on for almost a week before efforts were scaled back to interval searches for the missing man within the ski area and proximal backcountry.
