Mikaela Shiffrin, the recent winner of the Lake Louise downhill, will skip the speed event at the Pyeonchang Olympics opting to better prepare for the Alpine Combined instead.

According to the Denver Post, Shiffrin dropped the race after officials decided to move the Alpine Combined up a day due to heavy winds in the forecast on Friday. During her training runs, Shiffrin looked a tad bit sluggish, another reason why she might have decided to focus on the combined. Shiffrin has already claimed gold in the GS this time but lost out in her favored appearance at the Pyeongchang Slalom.
With her stepping out, another US Ski teamer has the chance to compete for Olympic gold. That racer is expected to be Alice McKennis of Glenwood Springs, CO.
Downhillers will appear tonight during primetime on NBC. Race coverage begins at 8pm EST.
