Chechnya Opens First Ski Resort…No Snow, 800 Truckloads Shipped In

Chechnya’s first and only ski resort hit a bit of a snag as they were approaching the grand opening of the estimated $345 million project…no snow.  To offset the lack of snow the more than 800 truckloads of snow were reported to have been brought in over three days to Veduchi luxury resort in the southern Russian republic’s Itum-Kale region, just 15 kilometers from the Georgian border.Rferl.org reports a member of Chechnya’s Tourism Committee confirmed that thousands of cubic meters of snow had been hauled in to Veduchi beginning on January 20 by dozens of dump trucks.

When Veduchi is completely developed by 2025 it will include multiple hotels and chalets, a skating rink, a spa complex, and a helipad but with the Chechnya’s 1.4 million citizens being among Russia’s lowest GDP per capita, it is not clear if they will be able to afford using it.
