A 60 year old woman was walking her two dogs in Idaho Panhandle National Forests when a large black bear attacked on Tuesday. The bear was with a cub and officials believe she was likely startled by the dogs and acting in self defense.

The woman was able to use her cell phone to call her family who were staying in a cabin near by.  They  scared away the bear by making noise and swinging a dog leash at it. The woman was bitten in the head and abdomen had been flown to a hospital in Spokane, Washington. Her injuries were not life-threatening but she did lose a lot of blood. The dogs were also injured but expected to make full recoveries.
