Located just north of Vancouver, Grouse Mountain prides itself on having some of the best park features in British Columbia. Yet Australian, Jason Patrick Apps thinks their jumps are too dangerous and has since sued the North Vancouver ski area, arguing that his debilitating spinal injury was a result of an improperly managed terrain park.
According to the North Shore News, the lawsuit claims that the resort’s park design was ill conceived and dangerous. The suit goes on to add that they are not doing enough to warn visitors of their park’s inherent danger.
Apps, who is just 21 years old, filed the lawsuit in early June saying that while hitting the final jump, his snowboard slid out from under him– resulting in him crashing in an upside down position. The accident ultimately left Apps without the ability to walk and has since been labeled in the suit as an “acute spinal cord injury.” Formerly a carpenter, the victim hopes to be compensated by the ski hill for any lost work that resulted from the accident.
Grouse Mountain has refrained from issuing a statement on the incident at the time of this article being published.
