The snowboarder who went missing just before Christmas has been found dead by search and rescue personnel reports The Jackson Hole News and Guide. The 34 year-old, Lee Kidd was last reported seen at the Dreamcatcher lift, where his pass was scanned by lift ops.
According to the article, dogs were used to find Kidd’s body, which was buried roughly under 2 feet of snow– just below a 500 foot cliff. Those familiar with the rescue believe that Kid was standing on a ridge above the zone when a cornice broke, sending him down the face, and ultimately off the cliff in question. The search involved a helicopter, spotters, avalanche mitigation, and expertly trained search and rescue dogs– all combined to execute a safe rescue operation. The search lasted 6 days and involved hundreds of man hours to bring Kid’s body back to his parents.
*Our deepest condolences go out to Lee’s friends and family.
