“We thought it would be nice for Canadians to rediscover their country at a slow speed.” Pierre Camu Co-Founder of the Trans Canada Trail

Construction on The Trans Canada Trail began way back in 1992 and at 87% completion it currently stretches over 12,000 miles across our friendly neighbor to the North.

240 gaps spanning 3,900 miles need to be bridged to fully connect the trail, a task which The Trans Canada Trail has ambitiously given itself until its 25th anniversary and Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017 to complete.

Interesting Trail Facts:

-Four out of five Canadians live within 30 minutes of the Trail and

-There are 6 primary activities that can be enjoyed on it including walking/hiking, cycling, paddling, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.

-Much of the trail is comprised of defunct railroads that have been converted into walking trails but are “rail banked” so if in the future they need to be converted back to functional railways they can be.
