Every summer, Sunday River in Maine hosts the North American Wife Carrying Championship.

The race involves a man carrying a woman across a 278 yard obstacle course that includes logs, mud pits, and other inconveniences that are not marital by nature. The winner ultimately grabs his lady’s weight in beer, 5 times her weight in cash, and entry to the world championship in Finland.
