- “K2 United can confirm an avalanche wiped out all the tents at camp 3 But all teams are ok”
It’s officially a no go.
After an avalanche swept away Camp 3 on the infamous K2, the climbing season on one of the world’s most challenging mountains is over. The Himalayan Times is reporting that the avalanche occurred on Saturday morning. Luckily, all climbers were safe and sound at the lower camps after weather forced a descent earlier this month. A multitude of climbing gear was lost in the slide.
Only 355 people have summited K2
Multiple summit attempts have been made this season, yet the weather never cooperated. With the avalanche, the climbers who’ve attempted this season will have to wait till next year or maybe longer.
