A deadly avalanche near the western edge of Tibet on Monday has killed 9 shepherds and hundreds of their livestock reports the Star Tribune.
The avalanche in question is thought to have been caused by warmer than normal temperatures throughout the Himalayan high country of the Ngari prefecture. As of now, the state-sponsored Xinhua News Agency has indicated that the massive slide measured 26 feet deep in places and killed 110 yaks and 350 sheep in addition to the 9 shepherds.
The prefecture in question is home to some of the world’s highest farms and pastures, some of which are above 15,000′ above sea level.
