While most people view the outdoors as a place to escape from the hustle and bustle of our technologically advanced world, some House Democrats are pushing for increased WiFi in of our country’s greatest natural treasures– National Parks.
Directed as a letter to President Barack Obama, 5 democratic congressmen are leading the charge to increase internet connectivity at visitors centers as well as deeper into the wilderness of highly regarded federal lands in order to create a link between these highly trafficked areas and their “neighboring communities.” The move towards a more technologically accessible wilderness is being led by Congressman, Jared Huffman (D- Colorado).

Many view this as counter to the mission of the National Parks Service which states, “The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations.”
Although nothing has been formally approved as of yet, Obama is set to finalize his budget on February 9th of this year.
