Ian Flanders, a southern California native, died BASE jumping on Tuesday after his lines got tangled during his second jump of the day. The tragic event came during the middle of a BASE Jumping/Wingsuit event in Turkey and left onlookers speechless.
After the first jump, a local station interviewed Flanders, “It was a gorgeous flight, a beautiful view of the town,” he said, “we landed in the river, which was also actually kind of fun.”
The second jump didn’t go as planned and ultimately led to the tragic death of the world-renowned BASE jumper. However the tragedy does not stop there. In a sad and ironic twist, Flanders was actually in the process of making a documentary about death within the sport of Base Jumping.
He was the 264th BASE jumper to die since the inception of the sport.
