Verbier

Reports are coming in of a large avalanche at the Swiss resort of Verbier.  According to reports, five people were caught in the slide in a closed area known as the Vallon d’Arby at around 12:30 today.

It is believed that 4 of the group managed to free themselves and a fifth had to be dug out.  It is unclear if anyone in the party was injured.

An investigation is now underway. Following heavy snow overnight, avalanche danger today was 4 on a scale of 5.

This latest incident comes on the heels of a deadliest over the weekend (6 people died in France).
