A heli-ski guide and his client are dead following an avalanche outside of Zermatt. The slide occurred on Monday after a guide and client were dropped off by a helicopter. It is being reported that the two were standing on a cornice when it collapsed triggering the slide and sending them 700m down the slope.
The guide had worked in the area for over 30 years and is said to have been very experienced. The dead person was a 39-year old German, but further details have not been released.
It brings the death toll to 17 in Switzerland this winter.
