Magnus Kastengren Dead After Falling 1800′ Down New Zealand’s Mt Cook

Swedish skier, Magnus Kastengren, is dead following a accident on New Zealand’s Mt Cook. Magnus, 32, was skiing with his compatriot, Andreas Fransson, off the lower summit of Mt Cook when he fell off the Summit Ridge Porter Col.

They had successfully skied/ climbed the East Face of Mt Cook and The Footstool the previous week. They had gone into the park on Saturday with the intention of climbing Aoraki-Mt Cook.

Department of Conservation services manager Mike Davies said yesterday’s was the third death at Aoraki-Mt Cook National Park since September.

Police say Fransson was not injured and has now left the country bound for Sweden.
