Texting while walking a deadly activity? Perhaps for Maria Pestrikoff of Anchorage, Alaska who is still in the hospital a month an a half after she fell from a cliff wall while walking and sending a text.
Maria Pestrikoff, of Anchorage, suffered multiple injuries after she walked close to the steep drop to toss a cigarette butt while attempting to send a message and slipped on wet grass. She toppled over, landing on rocks near the incoming tide.
By the time the Kodiak Fire Department got to [Maria] Pestrikoff, the tide was coming in. Rescuers had to act quickly – she was only about 10 feet from the water’s edge.
“The incoming tide was a factor to consider with regard to expediting the patient’s lift and removal from the beach so as to not introduce cold water hypothermia as another factor influencing her injuries,” [Fire Chief Rome] Kamai said.
Pretty hard to believe…the pervasive cell phones are now causing us to fall form cliffs like lemmings! Read more about this rather interesting story on the Alaska Dispatch.
