The Storm is here.  The Winter Storm Warning is here.  Heavy Snow is happening.  The only problem, right now, is the snow levels at 8,700 feet (that’s the top of the mountain).

Update 8 PM:

The temperatures and snow levels started dropping around 5 o’clock but have now shot back up to the highest point so far to around 8700 ft. – TahoeWeatherDiscussion.com

 


WINTER STORM WARNING FROM NOAA.GOV

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 10 AM PST SATURDAY.

 

* TIMING: SNOW WILL INCREASE THIS EVENING. A PERIOD OF VERY HEAVY SNOW WITH SNOWFALL RATES OF 2 TO 4 INCHES PER HOUR WILL OCCUR IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS ALONG THE COLD FRONT TONIGHT BETWEEN 8 PM AND 2 AM.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 2 TO 3 FEET ABOVE 8000 FEET…6 TO 12 INCHES ABOVE 7000 FEET…WITH 3 TO 6 INCHES AT LAKE LEVEL. HIGHEST AMOUNTS WILL OCCUR ALONG THE WEST SIDE OF THE LAKE TAHOE BASIN AFTER MIDNIGHT.

 

* WINDS: INCREASING SOUTHWEST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 45 MPH. SIERRA RIDGE GUSTS UP TO 125 MPH.

* SNOW LEVELS: RISING TO NEAR 9000 FEET BY EARLY EVENING THEN FALLING TO NEAR 7500 FEET AFTER MIDNIGHT. SNOW LEVEL MAY NOT REACH LAKE LEVEL UNTIL EARLY SATURDAY MORNING.
