Squaw valley half pipe red bull ski may 2011

Today, May 20th, 2011, Red Bull had some Badass Pro Skier doing gap jumps on the Super Pipe. We’re guessing it was Simon Dumont.  There was a helicopter doing really low laps filming him doing this.  I can’t even explain how insane it was to watch live.  I felt like I was at the circus. Red Bull has a lot of money these days, huh!?

There were at least 4 guys filming, sno-mos towing, and a freakin’ heli filming it all.  That’s not to mention how much work it must have taken to get the pipe cut like it is.

SPECIAL NOTE: The Roof, The Funnel, & Granite Chief Peak were skied today.  Squaw is letting us hike from the top of Shirley out to the Funnel and GCP.  The roof was clearly a poach, but whoever skied it, skied it very well.  Headwall wasn’t skied today and will be very good & smooth tomorrow am.

Besides the extreme radness of the Red Bull photo shoot there was some fantastic spring skiing.  KT was great right away at 9am.  The “fresh” snow that was there, was smooth and supple.  Once KT got sticky we went up and did a lap on Shirley, which was fun.  We then went over and watched the Red Bull show and had a blast.

Once the show was over we headed back to KT and KT skied well right until closing at 2pm.  So much for my theory of KT being cooked at sticky before 9am.
