9” of Snow by Sunday Nite | Bad for Bikers, Good For Skiers

I know there are people who are stoked for more pow.  I know there are people who are sick of snow.  I definitely know there are a bunch of professional cyclists who are gonna be appalled with the white stuff.

Yet, none of our perceptions matter because there is a storm coming whether we like it or not.

www.TahoeWeatherDiscussion.com tells us that by tomorrow morning…

“…we could see a couple of inches at lake level but once it’s daylight it will have a hard time sticking. Above 7000 ft. expecting 3-6 inches by Sunday night with 6-9 inches along the crest.”

How skiing Sunday/Monday might feel?  Probably won’t feel quite this good, but pow will still feel pretty damn good.

www.noaa.gov says:

* TIMING: SNOW WILL BEGIN LATE TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING...THEN
  TAPER TO SHOWERS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON.
* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 2 TO 4 INCHES BELOW 7000 FEET AND 3 TO 6
  INCHES ABOVE 7000 FEET. LOCAL AMOUNTS UP TO 8 INCHES NEAR THE
  SIERRA CREST.

* IMPACTS: SNOW IS LIKELY TO ACCUMULATE ON AREA ROADS VERY LATE TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. THIS WILL CREATE SLICK DRIVING CONDITIONS THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING.

The information that should be catching our attention is directly above.  Snow sticking to roads and slick road conditions.  This could be a huge bummer for Amgen Tour of California, or it could make it really exciting. The tour organizers claim that they have a contingency plan if the snow is a problem, but what could it be.  Where else in the Tahoe Basin can you get safe, snow free roads?

I’m just focusing on the best case scenario:

Skiing pow and watching the best cyclists in the world charge around our lake & mountain on the same day.

Hopefully, the snow sticks to the mountains and not to the roads.
