Today the chimney opened for the first time this season.  The conditions weren’t great.  The landings and the chimney itself were hard and were giving some people the buck and plenty of knee pain.  I skied the Sweep and not a flake of snow gave way.

What went down?  The Sweep, Center Line, The Loft, a Center Line/Loft variation by Jacob, and the Dan Scarcia line.

Dan hands down won the Chimney comp today with a line that was just ridiculous!  The shots I took of his tracks didn’t come out, but I may be getting some footage of it tonite and I’ll put it up.  If you’re curious, it was skier’s right of the Loft.  He dropped off the cornice oriented slightly right to left, was on snow for about a ski length and a half, then he popped, turned in the air, touched another pad pointed fall line for another ski length and a half, then sent a super high speed air for about 40 feet and stomped it.  It was insane.  Testosterone was literally on his breath when he made it to the peanut gallery.  I looked at his tracks above and there were knobby rocks sticking out of the 11’s that he left.

There is no doubt, now two years in a row, that Dan Scarcia is the Chimney Master.
