If you’ve been to Stowe, you’ve probably past the Cold Hollow Cider Mill. Cold Hollow is one of New England’s top producing Cider Mills. One thing that makes Cold Hollow different from most other mills is that they still use the old Cloth Press technique from the early 1920’s. You can actually watch them make batches of cider through their viewing area in the back of the mill. It’s pretty cool to see them make the cider! And you can taste it too!! After you watch them make the cider, you can walk around the mill and find some great specialty foods made here in Vermont. They’ve got everything from Apple Butter to homemade Mustard’s and jellies! So good!!! If you do stop, not only do you need to grab some cider, but you MUST get some of their world-famous Cider Donuts. You can get 1 for .50, half dozen for $2.50 or a dozen for $5. I have to warn you though.. it can be easy to put down multiple donuts! 🙂 If you are lucky enough to get the donuts fresh and still hot, they will literally melt in your mouth. During the Fall, they make up to 400 dozen donuts PER DAY! Crazy good!
Cold Hollow is normally crawling with tourists during the weekends, holidays and especially in the Fall. If you can get there during the week, you’ll be glad you did! Here are some of their essentials:
