This Map Of The World Is All Wrong And Boston Schools Are Going to Chuck It Out

The map of the world that most school kids are familiar with is called the Mercator projection map (above), however this map is a misrepresentation of the true size of the world’s continents. This is because to account for the world’s curve, this projection exaggerates regions far to the north or south appear larger than they are.

To inform children on the true size of the world’s nations Boston schools are going to chuck out the Mercator projection map and opt for the alternative Gall-Peters world map. Last week, the Boston Globe reports, at least 600 public school classrooms received Gall-Peters maps.
