Earlier this week, a crowd in Lahti, Finland was treated to a foreign sight when a Venezuelan cross country skier made his way onto a qualifying course and into the hearts of everyone watching.

According to the BBCAdrian Solano had only used imitation skis with wheels prior to the competition. He had never, I repeat never skied before on snow.

Footage of the skier’s blundering effort through the course has since gone viral but Solano is holding his head high. Maybe I’ve fallen many times but what really counts is that I will always keep getting up,” said Solano in a post to Instagram.

Originally, the Venezuela’s now famous cross country skier was supposed to train during the month prior to the event but was unable to after French immigration officials gave him a hard time due to his country of origin. Solano did not finish the race but that’s not going to stop him from trying again.
