Report From Powderchasers.com

Synopsis: Significant snowfall will likely be falling over the next 3 days over a wide area of the Cascades, BC, Interior BC (less than coastal), Montana  (Northern areas favored)central and southern Idaho and the Tetons in Wyoming. Colorado is a strong wildcard for Tuesday or Wednesday!  Temps will plummet crashing snow levels to sea level near Seattle by Monday!  Another decent storm is likely midweek in the Cascades that may drop south providing a better shot of snowfall for the Sierra, Wasatch and most of Colorado (Late next week).

Cascades:   light to moderate snow has fallen in the past 24 hours at most resorts.  Snow will pick up Friday afternoon (3500-4000 foot snow levels) and bring 6-9 inches for the central Cascades through Saturday morning.  Lesser amounts may fall near Mount Hood, and the far north towards Baker (4-7).  Colder air filters in Saturday night with a 2nd push of good moisture for a wide area of the Cascades through Sunday afternoon (Oregon and Washington Cascades favored). Our pick for chases will be first chair Saturday (Medium to heavy density) or first or mid morning chairs Sunday (5-11 medium density or better).    Frigid air arrives Sunday night/Monday kicking off snow showers at all resorts (Light or moderate) and snow on the grassy surfaces of Seattle (The space needle gets a fresh white coat).  A more powerful system likely on tap for mid to late next week in the PNW.

Rockies:  The Tetons nabbed another 5-7 inches in the past few days and conditions will only improve especially late Sunday/Monday.   The moisture and cold air will begin in northern Idaho Friday night spreading east and south into Montana Saturday morning.  The front reaches the Tetons late Saturday into Sunday but intensifies in the PM -through Monday morning. .  Snow will be falling in most of Idaho (Central and northern areas) by late Saturday.  Northern Montana resorts could see 12-18 inches by late Sunday! Southern areas near Big Sky or Bridger will grab moderate amounts.  Idaho resorts may see heavy snow in the north (Lets hope for Schweitzer) with 6-12 inches central zones (Brundage).  Sun Valley is a wildcard at this point (Guess? 4-7).

The Wasatch will get leftovers with light to occasional moderate snow with the cold front Sunday/Monday (Freshening on top of the 2-4 feet that fell last weekend). Late Monday or early Tuesday would be my picks for anywhere in northern Utah (5-8).“The Tetons will see a steady stream of light to moderate snow (1/2 inch to 1 inch per hour at times) Saturday night through Monday.”  the peak snowfall may occur mid morning Sunday so PM at Targhee and JHMR may be decent with a repeat on 1st chairs on Monday.  Snow may linger into Monday night (9-16 inches likely by Monday afternoon).Temperatures will stay cold so base area elevations should do well!

Colorado grabs light leftovers Sunday/Monday but may be worth a chase Tuesday/Wednesday.  Cold air being forced up over the mountains will cause orographics (Hard to nail this down on models) to deliver 6-12 inches in many areas along or north of I-70 (I am bullish gambling on the cold air alone and higher altitudes making up for less moisture). My top picks for Colorado will be Steamboat (Wonders can happen here with cold NW and W flow), followed by Vail, Copper and Breckenridge.  Aspen may deserve a watch?   Its still too far out for me to nail down amounts especially since most snow will be from cold air orographics.
