It’s not everyday you see a river turn the color of blood but in Russia it’s just another day filled with another environmental disaster.

The photos, which have been published via a variety of social media channels, show the Daldykan River contaminated by what appears to be redish-pinkish pollutant. A report from NBC News is indicating that the coloration is likely due to a toxic spill emerging from a nearby metals plant located in close proximity to the city of Norilsk. Known as one of the most polluted cities in the world, Norilsk is known for its metal plants whose main focus is processing and mining nickel and other metals.
So far, Russia’s Environment Ministry is investigating the river’s biblical appearance in relation to surrounding processing plants.
