While Jay Peak struggles with a sordid past, federal officials are doing all they can to create a bright future for the Vermont ski area. However, even after a federal court allocated $4.3 million to get the tram up and running, repairs could last up to 9 months reports vtdigger.com.

Towards the end of the season, Vermont’s Passenger Tramway Board shut down the tram after safety concerns were raised by J. Stephen Monahan. Monahan, who serves as the director of the Workers Compensation and Safety division of the Vermont Department of Labor indicated that the tram has a variety of safety concerns including its electrical system, tram cable, and cable housing units.

He also indicated that a concrete time-table is non-existent but thinks it’s unlikely that the tram will run this month. Electrical upgrades were cited as the main reason for the delay and experts have indicated that it could take up to 9 months before the tram is back at Jay Peak. In an interview with vtdigger.com, Monahan told one reporter, “If everything falls into place quickly, there’s a chance they could run at the end of the summer.” Resort officials believe otherwise as they plan to load test the tram this week and prove to state officials that the tram is safe for summer operation. However, the Tramway Board will have the final say.

Until then, court appointed receiver, Michael Goldberg will continue to pay alleged Ponzi scheme operator William Stenger a salary of $100,000 dollars to keep the resort running smoothly.
