A Texas woman was hit and killed by an oncoming car this past Wednesday while trying to photograph a Bald Eagle in Yellowstone National Park reports East Idaho News. The woman has since been identified as Wendy Larrabee.
At roughly 8am, Larrabee left her parked car, crossed the main road near the west entrance of the park, and was ultimately hit by an oncoming car. She was crossing the road in order to photograph one of the park’s native Bald Eagles on the Madison River.
In an interview with East Idaho News, Yellowstone spokesperson, Charissa Reid said, “We care about the safety of all people who come to visit Yellowstone and sadly these kind of tragic accidents do happen.” She later added, “we hope this serves as a reminder to everyone to follow the speed limit and be careful when crossing any road in the park.”
Currently an investigation into the accident is underway and park officials are urging any witnesses to call their hotline with additional information. The park tip line is 307-344-2132.
