While the tram line @JacksonHole gets unbearably longer each year, resort officials are scrambling to find a way to ease congestion on what many consider as the best ski lift in North America. Their solution– a new gondola, which will replace the outdated Sweetwater triple chair. The hope is that by providing easier access to the northern end of the resort’s terrain surrounding the Casper lift, skier flow will improve and ultimately, the tram line will start to thin.
“Improving the out of base capacity will greatly enhance skier flow, and the Sweetwater Gondola will dramatically improve the beginner skier and rider experience,”– JHMR President, Jerry Blann
The north side, which has long been known as the mellower side of Jackson Hole, has changed significantly with the addition of the Teton Lift and the higher mountain terrain it accesses. The Teton Lift now allows experts direct access to the famed Crags zone and while JHMR announced the addition on January 19th, construction will begin this spring.
JHMR hopes the product will be completed by the start of the 2016/2017 season!
The new 8-person gondola built by Doppelmayr will ascend 1,276 vertical feet and deliver over 2,000 people and hour to a spot just above the Casper restaurant. The bottom station will be located between the Bridger Gondola and Teewinot Chair and will have a mid-station for ski school access to the Solitude area.
