Timberline Lodge, the only ski area in the United States to offer near year-round skiing, is facing a dilemma. The Palmer Snowfield on which Timberline Lodge offers skiing and riding is melting, fast. In a rare move, Timberline Lodge closed early this year due to lack of snow.
Recent images from Timberline skycam on Mt. Hood show that the Palmer Snowfield is barely holding on. No one knows how much longer the snowfield can hold on or if Timberline will be able to offer summer skiing and snowboarding in the future.
