Pizza makes the ski bum world go around. For many skids, pizza slices are their lifeblood as the Italian food item makes up around 50% of their diet during the winter months. They’re cheap, they go good with beer, and they’re quick. So grab a slice at one of these spots and thank us later.

Disclaimer: Excluded are over-priced gourmet pizza joints that include aioli on everything. Included are greasy, delicious, and reasonably priced pies.

This local’s favorite is in walking distance from the Ajax base and is one of the few reasonably priced eateries in the town of Aspen. It’s extremely simple and old fashioned, which goes a long way in the world of Parmesan Aioli pizzas.

Unofficial Pick: A $4.25 slice of Pepperoni

Although the Village Café in Teton Village is now closed, the same owner occupies Pinky G’s, which is conveniently tucked away off the town square in downtown Jackson, WY. Pizza’s vary but the “Slice O’ the Day” offers up some of the best variations for cheap.

Unofficial Pick: The Abe Froman (Spicy sausage, buffalo mozzarella & fresh chopped basil. add balsamic glaze)

Bab’s serves up a traditional New York style pie with prices that are the best on this list. Slice of cheese? $2.75. Slice with two toppings? $3.00. It doesn’t get much friendlier than that.

Unofficial Pick: The Little Italy (Marinara, mozzarella, sweet Italian sausage, green peppers, red onions)

3. Homeslice Pizza: Bethel, ME

Just down the road from Sunday River Ski Resort, Homeslice Pizza hand tosses every single one of their pies for modest Mainer ski bums. That said, the price of the labor is not passed onto the pies but instead, they offer an extremely reasonable priced pie with their baseline being a large cheese pizza for $13.99. Not too shabby.

Unofficial Pick: The Slan Thai (Grilled chicken, shiitake mushrooms, peppers and onions in a zesty Thai peanut sauce)

2. Creekbread: Whistler, B.C.

Creekbread is about as close as anything on this list comes to being “gourmet.” Actually it’s better than gourmet. Creekbread offers all natural, wood fired, clay oven pizzas for great prices that make you wonder how they do it. Also, Creekbread gets bonus points for offering aprés slices from 4-5pm on weekend and on the weekends they serve up slices from 2-4pm.

Unofficial Pick: Whistler Community Creekbread (wood-fired cauldron tomato sauce, caramelized organic onions, BC grown mushrooms, premium whole milk mozzarella and Asiago cheese baked on organic bread dough with housemade garlic oil, sprinkled with our own blend of organic herbs)

1. Hernando’s Pizza and Pasta Pub: Winter Park, CO

After walking into Hernando’s and seeing dollar bills stapled all over the walls, it’s obvious this place is the real deal. Also, Jeff Davidson, who owns Hernando’s with his wife Kimber, is a certified shredder as well as pie spinner.

Unofficial Pick: Jerry’s (Pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms)

Just remember, if you french fry when you are supposed to pizza you’re going to have a bad time.
