As rumors swirl about what Snowbird Ski Resort plans to do if a proposed land swap is approved, general manager Bob Bonar is hoping to clarify the resort’s intentions. “What we would like to do is expand our ski resort operations, mostly on our private property in upper Mineral Basin and upper Mary Ellen Gulch,” Bonar said. He then added, “No hotels, no condos, no gondolas connecting down to Tibble Fork or down to the bottom of American Fork Canyon.”

The proposed land swap would exchange 1,500 acres of private land in American Fork Canyon for 416 acres of National Forest land.

However, Utah residents are skeptical and they expressed their wariness of the plan at a County Commissioners meeting this past Tuesday. With no room to sit, residents hurled questions and comments at the commissioners regarding what developments were in store for the area being swapped and how those developments will affect public access in the future.

According to Snowbird President and CEO, the proposed land swap is only in the ideas phase at this point and they would like to consult local residents prior to taking any visible action.
