It is being reported that Dave Rosenbarger, known around Chamonix as “American Dave”, has died in an avalanche in Italy.
Reports are coming in that Rosenbarger was skiing off the Helbronner on the Italian side of Mont Blanc when he was taken out be an avalanche. Details are scarce, but it is believed that he was skiing with three partners who were able to dig him out of the debris. He was apparently alive when he was extracted from the snow but died due to his injuries in a local hospital after being airlifted.
Dave had been living in Chamonix since 2003, but was an Oregon native.
Rosenbarger is survived by his wife, Rosanna Hughes. They had no children.
