Alpenglow Sports is proud to announce the first installment of the 2014/15 Winter Film Series, presented by KTKE 101.5 and Blue Moon Brewing Company. On Thursday, November 13th, 2014 local hero Dave Nettle will kick off the series at Squaw Valley’s world-famous Olympic Village Lodge.
Now in it’s 9th year, the Alpenglow Sports Winter Film Series has become a staple seasonal event for North Tahoe’s skiing and climbing community. Designed to inspire, motivate and educate, the event runs from November through March and showcases five famous athletes. All shows are free and raffle prizes from sponsors are sold to raise funds for local non-profit organizations.
To date, the event has raised well over $40,000 for the community. Past beneficiaries include the Sierra Avalanche Center, High Fives Foundation, Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue, Disabled Sports Far West, Project Mana, Tahoe Safe Alliance, and many more.
“The Winter Film Series embodies everything exciting about our Tahoe mountain community,” according to event coordinator and owner of Alpenglow Sports, Brendan Madigan. “Once a month, our mountain community comes together for a special evening. A world-famous athlete takes us on a remote and exciting adventure, a local non-profit takes home much needed funds, and the community enjoys a free show that motivates and inspires.”
Each season, local hero and series emcee Dave Nettle kicks off the event in true Tahoe style. Living life to the fullest and having fun with great friends is the theme of each of Nettle’s stories.
For the 2014/15 kick-off, Nettle will entertain the audience with scintillating images and entertaining ski touring tales from Europe’s Maurienne Alps. Home to some of the most amazing alpine ski mountaineering on earth, Nettle’s compelling imagery and comedic delivery from the French-Italian zone is not to be missed.
“Dave has been a crowd favorite for over two decades. His constant adventures to far away places assure that his shows are always a highlight of the Winter Film Series and amazing kick-off event,” according to Madigan.
Nettle will present images and a lively narrative from a fun and adventurous ski tour this past spring. The route, along the “other” Haute Route, travelled north to south along the French-Italian border weaving through the spectacular, but less travelled, Haute Maurienne Alps.
The show will wrap up with an assortment of backcountry ski images ranging from the Vallee Blanche in Chamonix to the Northern Selkirks of British Columbia and back to our own backyard here in the Tahoe Sierra. Dave’s antics and adventure will surely stir up your own imagination and rambling spirit for mountain experiences.
