One person is dead and 4 are seriously injured following a helicopter crash near Wanaka, New Zealand. According to the company involved, Harris Mountains Heliski, the accident happened in clear visibility with little or no wind.

The crash occurred on Mt Alta soon after the helicopter left Queenstown. Reports are that the helicopter rolled down a slope after trying to land.

All the people were New Zealanders but their identities have not been released.

One report says the pilot, who was very experienced, has survived and has minor injuries.

“HMH wish to offer their deepest sympathy to the victim’s family and friends. Flying and heli-ski conditions today were extremely good. Full details of the accident are still unknown,” said a statement from Harris Mountains Heliski.
