A flash flood followed by a rockslide has destroyed Vrรกtna Dolina ski resortย in Slovakia.ย On the evening of July 21, torrential rains and landslides occurred causing widespreadย damage. In the Vrรกtna Dolina, a valley close to the municipality of Terchovรก, dozens of people have been left cut off in the Vrรกtna mountain chalet and on the ridge of Malรก Fatra mountains, but no injuries or fatalities were reported.ย This incidentย follows one ofย the biggest winter in recent memory for Slovakia with massive snowfalls and huge snowpacks.

Official Statement From Vrรกtna Dolina:

“This calamity caused huge damage to property, but even more in the hearts of all lovers of nature, and especially lovers of our beautiful corner of Slovakia – Porter Valley. Therefore, we do most every day as we can to all as soon as possible return to business as usual.”

Removing debris and repairing damage caused by the devastating flood will take the Slovak Water Management Company (ล VP) between two to three months, with the costs estimated at โ‚ฌ2 million, Environment Ministry State Secretary Vojtech Ferencz said July 24.
