Wow sick, and as most will recall he was almost taken out by two heavy avey’s in Attack of La Nina. What a bad ass

I find it interesting that so many people bagged out the guy that ignored some minor tell tales and got caught in an avalanche, but then riding out an avalanche is so hugely celebrated. It seems like people that do this are portrayed as heroes…of course young guns are going to go out there and get in silly situations if this is who they look up to. No doubt it was incredible and he survived, but how come this is celebrated in this and so many other movies, but then people seem surprised when someone gets killed or badly injured. Seems like a double standard to me.

In these situations there are helicopters, cameras, and medical staff on scene. All of which increase chances of being saved. I would not glorify people who try this in the backcountry with only one or two inexperienced friends to respond.

The people who bag on others and the ones who actually do this and look up to rippers are two different types. Our way of life is dangerous and we loose many buddies along the way. Most only know ones that are heavily publicized, but for the guys who do this day in day out its old news. injury and death do not keep us from going out and getting a buzz from playing in the snow. If you don’t want to stomp a flip into a avy path then don’t. If you want to then this is probably one of the safest places to do so, it’s a competition dudes push it,, rescue staff is there but like in any sport anything can happen.

I was skiing Zermatt the day before the big mtn slopestyle comp, and things were def ripping out. Looks like they choose an aspect with a hell of allot more snow than most of what we were skiing. Insane to watch, but I couldnt agree more with some of the posters above. What a better place to tempt fate and conditions than a huge comp with tons of well trained rescue personnel, helicopters, and medics. If we would have been buried there would have been 50 people searching within two minutes. Just saying

Except for the fact that the majority of avalanche-related deaths are from trauma suffered during the slide, rather than suffocation following the slide arrest.

That dude is amazing! No question, any way you cut it for any reason. There is a difference between those wanting to be the man, and those that are the man. That Dude IS the man. Period.
