Big Sky, Montana — Over the past couple of years, the tram has been an add-on cost, but their new tram is helping to remove that cost for some guests.
This week, Big Sky Resort announced that their lift tickets now include access to the Lone Peak Tram. Big Sky plans to continue monitoring tram capacity based on conditions atop Lone Mountain. Daily lift tickets are currently available for as low as $56 during December and April. For the lowest prices on lift tickets, it’s recommended to buy them before September 10th.
“The new tram has exceeded expectations in every way. We promised we would reevaluate the tram experience each year, and this move provides flexibility and value with our product lineup, while offering more guests access to Lone Peak,” said Troy Nedved, who’s Big Sky Resort’s General Manager.
However, this change does not apply to Ikon, Mountain Collective, and select Big Sky passholders. Individuals with these passes will still have to pay a $10-40 auto charge per ride. The daily fee alternates based on demand and conditions.
The tram became a separate fee during the 2021-22 season, following a trend of longer lines at the original Lone Peak Tram, which only held 15 people. However, the opening of the new Lone Peak Tram during the 2023-24 season led to shorter lift lines than its predecessor, thanks to its larger capacity. The new tram has led to a surprising number (nearly a quarter) of individuals going up solely to sightsee. I imagine this percentage will increase once the Explorer Gondola comes online during the 2025-26 season. With its top terminal planned to be near the tram, foot passengers will easily be able to access the tram for the first time during the ski season.
