Avalanche Training Video: How Cooke City, Montana Search And Rescue Train

Cooke City, Montana – Heading into the backcountry unprepared places you at unnecessary risk. A fantastic adventure can quickly turn tragic without proper equipment.

This is a reenactment of an avalanche incident in the mountains north of Cooke City, Montana to replicate how Park County Search and Rescue (SAR) responds to calls and transitions from doing beacon searches to running probe lines when people don’t have beacons.

With an avalanche incident time is critical. In a small extremely remote community like Cooke City, trained volunteers, equipment, leadership, and communication save lives.

Venturing into avalanche terrain should never be taken lightly. With proper gear – a beacon, shovel, and probe – you carry the tools for a rescue should the worst happen. Don’t be caught without this critical gear when you may need it the most.
