For the past two months, Utah has seen a lot of snowfall. This trend continued last week, which resulted in the Utah Avalanche Center issuing its first warning of the 2022-23 season. Recently, their avalanche report log has spiked immensely, with many occurring in the backcountry.
KSL reports that one avalanche occurred at an in-bounds mountain: Snowbird. Details are sparse, but the Utah Avalanche Center says that the avalanche happened on Saturday morning near the Road to Provo trail, and it was caused by a skier. Ski Patrol searched the scene and found no one trapped or injured by the avalanche path.
BYU Professor Jani Radebaugh captured the scenes of the avalanche path, pictured above, and recorded a video of Snowbird’s ski patrol searching for anyone, which is down below.

The situation is a great reminder to be ready for anything when you’re skiing, even if you’re not in the backcountry.
