Sugarloaf Announces Opening Day!

The Northeast’s major snowmaking window is leading to some rapid openings, as Killington and Sunday River opened for the season today.

Tomorrow, Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine will be spinning its lifts. They’ll start their winter off with the Superquad as their only operating lift. Sugarloaf will have at least six runs open, as Tote Road, Bridle Chain, Lower Timberline, Candyside, and Hayburner are currently confirmed by the mountain to be open for Friday. The mountain saw 4″ of snow from this week’s storm, so they have a solid base (in New England terms), to start out.

The major addition of the offseason was a T-bar which Carabasset Valley Academy will use to train their ski racers. Other improvements include purchasing a hotel for employee housing and snowmaking upgrades.

In the coming seasons, a proposed future expansion onto West Mountain will grow Sugarloaf’s intermediate trail network, along with adding more slopeside homes and condos.
