If you were planning on hiking, skiing, or doing any other recreational activities at Telluride on November 3rd or 4th, you definitely want to make new plans.
The resort is temporarily closing so that Ski Patrol and US Forest Service members can conduct live fire howitzer training.
What does that mean? You might ask. Let me break it down in plain terms for ya…
Ski Patrol and USFS members are going to be shooting a WWII-era artillery gun to practice mitigating avalanches. So, yeah, you don’t want to be anywhere on the mountain over those two days…!
Still not convinced? Read this line in the caption of Telluride’s Instagram post announcing the closure:
“Howitzer shrapnel can be deadly and travel great distances from the point of impact.”
You don’t want to be worried about dodging Howitzer shrapnel, right? So just do everybody a favor and stay off the damn mountain for a couple of days, okay?
No need to risk having a piece of artillery shrapnel go flying through your brain so you can hike around the barely-snow covered mountain…😅
