As Hurricane Ian leaves behind catastrophic damage in Florida, the people of Atlantic Canada are picking up the pieces from post-tropical storm Fiona. The storm caused serious damage throughout numerous Canadian provinces, including the iconic Teacup Rock in Prince Edward Island.
The ski resorts of Nova Scotia sustained damage from the storm, leaving behind many downed trees. Ski Wentworth was bracing for an exciting season, with a new Doppelmayr fixed-grip quad being added. Unfortunately, the ski resort saw significant damage from the Hurricane, with many downed trees falling on the new chairlift cable. No damage is expected, but a removal process is obviously needed. Additionally, trees fell on the T-bar and Blue Chair lines. They had a Fall Folliage event scheduled for this weekend, but they had to cancel it due to the cleanup needed to reopen.
Cape Smokey, which opened up a new gondola last year, saw less damage from the storm. They were closed briefly, but have reopened. They’re offering residents who still are without power to come over to their lodge to use their free wifi and have a bite to eat.
